Great Reasons To Eat More Beets

Did you know that beets are a cancer fighter? They are also beneficial in reducing inflammation and lowering your blood pressure!  We looked into all the reasons to eat them and came up with some amazing information.

Beets are small herbaceous plants with broad dark-green leaves. Beets are a pre-agricultural food that grew naturally along the coastlines of North Africa, Asia, and Europe. Originally, people consumed the greens of the beet; the sweet red beet root that most people consume today weren't actually cultivated until the ancient Roman era.

Garden beets are very low in calories and contain zero cholesterol, they also have only a small amount of fat. The nutritional benefits of eating beets come particularly from the fiber, vitamins, minerals, and unique plant derived anti-oxidants they contain. There are also a variety of unique health-boosting nutrients that beets possess and which you may not be getting elsewhere. All that nutrition plus they're delicious!

Drinking beet juice may help lower your blood pressure.  This can actually happen within only hours after digestion and the effect can also improve your blood flow. Although beets have the highest sugar content of all vegetables, most people can safely eat beet roots a few times a week, enjoying not only their sweet, earthy flavor but also the powerhouse nutrients they contain. Incorporating beets into your diet may improve your health in many ways.

Drinking beet juice may be linked to nitrates turning into nitric oxide.  This may reduce the oxygen cost of low-intensity exercise as well as enhance tolerance to high-intensity exercise. Also, beets contain betaine, the same substance that is used in certain treatments of depression. In fact, beets are a unique source of betaine, a nutrient that helps protects cells, proteins, and enzymes from environmental stress. It's also known to help fight inflammation, protect internal organs and improve vascular risk factors.

Eating beets can help fight cancer, reduce arthritic pain, and boost the body's ability to burn fat.  As well, beets may assist in a number of other health areas; for example, research has shown that beetroot extract reduced multi-organ tumor formations in various animal models when administered in drinking water, while beetroot extract is also being studied for use in treating human pancreatic, breast, and prostate cancers.

Beets are high in immune-boosting vitamin C, fiber, and essential minerals like potassium and manganese. Beets also contain the B vitamin folate, this folate helps reduce the risk of birth defects.

Beets will help detox your body. Unwanted toxic substances are chemically combined with a small nutrient group. This combination neutralizes the toxin and makes them sufficiently water-soluble so they can be excreted through the urine.

With all these winning traits we encourage you to eat your beets.  It's even safe to say that when it comes to the healthy and delicious nutrition, they're hard to... well, you know!
