Turmeric milk is a traditional Indian and Ayurvedic beverage that is typically consumed before bed. Turmeric has a warm, slightly spicy, bold, and earthy flavor. Turmeric milk is a mix of turmeric and warm dairy-free milk along with a pinch of pepper, cinnamon and maple syrup. The warming effect it has on the body puts you right to sleep.
Honey is optional as a sweetener. I use coconut milk because it is full of healthy fats and contains lauric acid, antimicrobial lipids and capric acid, which have antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties.
Benefits of Turmeric Milk:
- Key Ingredients Are Loaded With Antioxidants
- May Improve Memory and Brain Function
- Ease arthritis pain, due to it’s anti-inflammatory properties
- Help the liver detoxify by enhancing liver function
- Boost blood circulation, and also thins the blood (CAUTION to those already on a blood-thinning medication)
- Heal and soothe the digestive tract, and even help prevent ulcers due to the antiseptic properties
- May Reduce Your Risk of Cancer
- Reduce the pain and fever associated with illness
Simply pour almond/coconut milk into a small saucepan and bring to a light boil. Whisk to combine turmeric and pinch of pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for up to 10 minutes. To serve, add honey/maple syrup or a dash of cinnamon.
