Health Benefits of Avocados

Eating an avocado a day is good for your health. Avocados are a fun food to eat, they're nutritious, and they're a good source of monounsaturated fat, which can reduce your risk of heart disease. Because avocados are relatively high in fat, they are also high in calories. While many different things can affect weight loss or weight gain, the biggest factor is the number of calories you eat. Because avocados are relatively high in calories, it can be easy to eat too much without realizing it.

A half-cup of guacamole has about 6 grams, almost 1/4, of your daily fiber needs. Fiber helps you feel full, so you're less likely to overeat. Avocados are packed with a variety of other B vitamins, too, including thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), and niacin (B3). These help your body convert the food you eat into energy.


Avocados are especially rich in niacin, which can fight inflammation in the body and protect your arteries. Research now shows that avocados in particular can also help lower "bad" cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure. Avocados give you a good dose of vitamin E, which may help protect against Alzheimer's disease.


Eating a plant-based diet (that includes avocados) could drop your chance of developing type 2 diabetes by about 20%. avocado is great for your skin. Its antioxidants, like vitamin C, can help keep your skin looking youthful by smoothing out wrinkles.


Avocados are an excellent source of glutathione, an antioxidant that researchers say is important in preventing aging, cancer, and heart disease.


To save cut  avocado in half and fill a glass or plastic container near full with water. With the flesh-side down, place the avocado in the container, cover, and place in the fridge. This will keep the avocado from turning brown for about another two days.
