Prawn Masala Curry I Prawn Curry Recipe



Delicious curry with fresh spicy flavours - ideal for part of a relaxed curry buffet. Prawns are a great source of high quality protein, and provide some of the most important vitamins and minerals that make up a healthy diet. They are surprisingly low in calories and are made up of extremely healthy cholesterol. The same 100 grams of prawns contains only about 115 calories.

Ingredients:
Prawns, medium sized (cleaned and deveined) 500 gms
Onions, fine chopped- 2 small
Tomatoes, fine chopped- 2 small
Ginger garlic paste- 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Red Chilli powder- 1 tsp or less as per taste
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
Oil- 2 tbsp
Garam masala powder- 1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves, chopped- 1 tbsp

Directions:

Devein and wash the prawns well with cold water. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a cast iron pan and add some cumin seeds and toss until they expel a warm, rich aroma.Add the chopped onions.
Add the 1 cup of water or coconut milk, let it come to a boil, lower the heat to low and cover & cook for around 10 mins. Now sprinkle chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti or rice.

Add the chopped tomatoes, mix and add the salt. Cook for around 5 mins till tomatoes are soft. Add all the powders other than garam masala powder. Mix and add 1/2 cup of water. Keep cooking on medium for around 2-3 mins till the masalas are cooked. Now add the prawns and mix well. Fry for around 5 mins on medium heat.

Fry on medium to low heat till translucent( around 8-10 mins) and add the ginger garlic paste. Mix and fry for around 2 mins till raw smell is gone.

Add the chopped tomatoes, mix and add the salt. Cook for around 5 mins till tomatoes are soft. Add all the powders other than garam masala powder. Mix and add 1/2 cup of water. Keep cooking on medium for around 2-3 mins till the masalas are cooked. Now add the prawns and mix well. Fry for around 5 mins on medium heat. Add the 1 cup of water or coconut milk, let it come to a boil, lower the heat to low and cover & cook for around 10 mins. Now sprinkle chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti or rice.
